A FEW OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS

Kat Von D came out with a new book yesterday, and of course I went out and purchased it right away.  She always makes the most beautiful and inspirational books.  The artwork from cover to cover is absolutely gorgeous.  Sometimes, when I'm feeling uninspired or my spirits down, I open one of her books...and it almost always helps me.  Many people don't know it, but she literally started from nothing. She ran away from home with her boyfriend when she was young(I believe 14), and then followed her dreams of being a tattoo artist.  And look at her now.  Freaking unstoppable beautiful business woman.  Anyways if you haven't read any of her books, I suggest you at least rent them from a local library.

There is a quote from the book I want to share.  I am not usually one for "inspirational cheesy quotes"  but this one really hit home.

"The purpose of life is to discover your gift.  The work of life is to develop it.  The meaning of life is to give your gift away"
-David Viscott, FINDING YOUR STRENGTH IN DIFFICULT TIMES, 1993

This quote just pushes me to be the person I want to be, to do what I want to do.  And to not end up mindlessly walking the daily steps of life.

Everything moves so fast.  In a blink of an eye I will be somewhere else and someone else.  Everything I know now will change, but I want to be in full control of who I become and where I go.

Anyways, enough of that deep stuff.  I wanted to share a few of my favorite "inspirational" books.  All 3 Kat Von D books are included.

The book Beasts is beyond entertaining.  An array of  modern artists create their own interpretation of various beasts, mythological creatures, folklore, and other creatures.  Each beast has it's own short description as well, so you get some knowledge out of the book as well.

In the beginning of my discovery of "fashion", Japanese fashion was my biggest inspiration...and almost and obsession.  I would go on every "street" website and gawk at the amazing and odd collections of outfits.  These books were some of my favorites.

This book I just picked up yesterday, and I am so excited to use it as reference for so many upcoming designs and projects.

That's it for today.  I've got to get to work (my 9-5 job).

NEW LENSES, BIG NEWS, NEW DESIGNS, MODELS WANTED

Last week I went to The Camera Company and purchased a few new lenses.  Apparently my main lens was just cached....so I got that one replaced.  Then I couldn't help myself but get a fun lens.  I've always wanted one that would take really detailed up close pictures but the background became blurry.    I took a couple pictures of some new necklaces I got today just to play around with the new lens.

Sorry it's a bit photo heavy, but I'm just super excited!  Also, both the necklaces I got from Forever 21...they were both around $5.

Yesterday something super exciting happened for me.  A page called Nerdgasmic and Dorktastic on facebook posted a link of my Sword Leggings and they got so much traffic!  Over 600 likes and 200 shares.  So THANK YOU so much for that.

I have 3 new leggings designs coming out hopefully next week.  I will be looking for models to model the leggings, some new tanks, as well as most of my previous inventory.  It will be a simple indoor shoot with white background.

Here's what I'm looking for in a model:
Lady
Wears size 7 or under
Alternative look (different colored hair, tattoos, piercings...not too many piercings)
18 years old and up
Lives in the Madison, WI area

Please message me if you're interested.  sovrinapparel@gmail.com  And please do not be in any way sad or offended if I do not decide to use you.  You're still gorgeous! Just not what I'm looking for today :)

Here's an example of an ideal model:

SUPPORTING THE ARTISTS

Any time I can, I like to purchase items for small companies/entrepreneurs.  It makes me feel like I am directly helping them achieve their dreams....which is what I want to do if I feel like they are creating something beautiful and worthwhile.

One of my favorite companies is Moon Raven Designs.  They create gorgeous jewelry that are mostly based on animalistic anatomy....which is one of my obsessions.  I have 2 necklaces from them....and just ordered a 3rd.  I am beyond excited.  They are a little on the expensive side, but they are very worth it as I cannot find any other company that pays as much attention to detail as they do.  The current necklaces I own, I wear almost every day.  Here is a photograph of the new necklace I will be expecting!

The other necklaces I own by them are these:  (my lovely boyfriend bought both of them for me!)

The ram skull necklace was what first drew me to their shop.  I wear this one the most.  It's absolutely amazing.

Another company I just purchased from is Fearless Plugs.  This girl creates some pretty rad plugs and at a great price.  One thing I love about her shop is that you get a lot of choices when it comes to color/size/style.   It's always nice being able to order exactly what you like.  I just ordered these items:

I'm super excited for these anchors....just the cutest buttons!  And I have yet to get gold plugs for my newly sized up ears :)

These bird skull plugs are awesome because you can choose the color rose....so I of course chose black.  I love that they are dangly so that I can feel as if I am wearing fancy earrings when in reality I'm just wearing fancy plugs.  OH and size 9/16 is available....awesome.
